I had carpeting upstairs only when I got my dogs....and had to remove that. Then as we redid the flooring downstairs I put down nice inexpensive (thank god) area rugs....they got wizzed on and no matter all I cleaned and steamed (used commercial cleaners, enzymatic cleaners and even vinegar and water as suggested) they still went back. They seem to love the cushioned effect under their bum. I finally gave up and dumped out all the new area rugs. Now that Lulu seems to be 99% house trained I will entertain getting some new ones again to finish the final touches of decorating the house.
