Default Hello!

I am a new Mom to a sweet 3lb. Yorky registered as "Mary's Twinkling Star" but affectionately known as "Twinkle". We adopted her from my sister in law's family as Twinkle is not show quality due to being very petite (3lbs. and 1 1/2 years old) and thin coat on the body.

First delimma is I am not sure what type of yorkie she ...her coat that is there is long, so soft and fine that it feels like baby hair. I want to groom her and cut her myself. She is not timid or nippy at others but I would like to care for her needs myself as her Mom. I have tried to look for some simple instructions to the cut/styling the hair around the face, eyes and applying a small bow...but have come up with nothing.

Second issue is training her to go into a litter box. Since we have had her she is good at using the "puppy pads" we lay out and uses those for void and elimination. However, I would like to keep her going on the pad and not the occassional mishap of my son's comforter/ bed. She is so tiny that going outside poses a problem as in the morning there is dew on the lawn and she is saturated and shaking before being successful. We live in Minnesota and with her petite size and lack of coat there is no realistic way to consider her using the lawn full time. We have cats and so litter training is realistic. I work full time and that seems the reasonable choice. Any ideas out there?

My sister in law had Twinkle fixed, vaccinated and the recent tests show she is free from the issues with kidneys and liver for now. Her only history so far was a brief problem with being hypoglycemic which has been not a issue for several months. I am interested in advice or experiences with these fragile dogs so I am prepared to care for and enjoy our time together.
