I agree. I highly doubt you'll see many show breeders advertising in the classifieds...they usually have a waiting list for their puppies and have homes lined up before or soon after the puppies are born.
My though on breeding mixes vs. creating our current purebreds. The difference between the people that created our current purebreds and those breeding "designer dogs" is that those breeders that created our purebreds were breeding for a purpose. They had an ultimate goal in their breeding and knew what type of dog they wanted to create. They knew what qualities they wanted to take take from the breeds they used and which they wanted to eliminate. They selectively bred for certain traits to create our purebreds. However, people that breed these "designer mixes" aren't breeding for anything really other than cuteness as puppies so they'll sell well. They aren't trying to make a new breed that breeds true. These are just first generation crosses - and these people are not selectively breeding for certain traits. They HOPE they'll be hypoallergenic, HOPE they don't have health problems, HOPE they breathe well, HOPE they are cute as adults and not just as puppies. It takes years and years and several generations to create a new breed, as well as knowing a great deal about genetics. These people breeding mixes don't usually have a clue about how genetics works and certainly aren't trying to create something that will eventually breed true
