Wow 8 years and never gone to the vet? Do you not take your dogs in for yearly check-ups and vaccinations? Vaccinations aren't needed every year but a yearly check-up is so so so important. If something is wrong you can catch it early by regular check-ups (just like with people). Yorkies and other toy breeds are definitely more high maintenance than larger breeds. I notice every single teeny thing that changes about Lacy. I get a little worried if she even coughs or her eyes or tearing too much, etc. I don't run her to the vet for every little thing, but I have had to take her in for a couple things before - like an eye infection and swollen paws (like your's). And I make sure she gets checked out at least once a year.
