1) Will her personality change? She's so playful and affectionate, just all around good hearted. I'd hate to lose that -- No, her personality will not change AT ALL.
2) I'm concerned about anesthesia. Sometimes people don't deal well with it, what about dogs? I've seen people end up with alzheimer's like symptoms. The vet says he uses gas, normally with these small babies -- Gas is the best. Sounds like your vet has experience with small dogs so I wouldn't worry. You will have the option to get pre-surgery blood work done. DEFINATELY get it done. It will check all of her organs to make sure they are stable enough to handle the anesthesia. As long as the blood test comes back negative, then you should have nothing to worry about regarding the anesthesia.
3) Healing time. What can I expect? It took my little girl, Hootie, no time to heal. They'll probably give her some pain meds so you'll really need to watch her. The pain meds will make her feel well, when she isn't well. You'll need to make sure she doesn't go up and down any stairs, doesn't jump on/off the bed or couch, and make sure she rests so she can heal properly. I would make her chill out until she gets her stitches out. And watch her incision. It is fine if she licks it. But, if he becomes red, put some Neosporin on it. If it gets worse than just a little red, you'll need to take her to the vet for them to look at. But hopefully you won't have any problems! Keep us updated on how your little girl does! I'm sure she'll be fine! |
