Conner was just the opposite. He was on a plane from Oklahoma to CT, then a two-hour car ride home and never threw up.
After that when we took him for rides (1/2 hour or less) he would throw up. I don't know what the trigger is (he has a carseat where he can look out and I don't feed him for a couple of hours before), but he is a lot better now (except for the bumpy side roads).
You are very lucky that Tanner loves the car and does not get sick. I am hoping for that for myself and Conner.
