I have the washable one too. They are great, BUT, since Tanner is left caged up for 10 to 20 hours, I DO NOT suggest the washable ones, simply b/c they don't dry and you will be back to him lying around it wet pee for those 10 to 20 hours.

I would honestly set up a e-pen in the kitchen or get baby gates to keep him locked in the kitchen.

Then get good absorbant wee wee pads (I gave you a link from e-bay, trust me, they are good). Then go to Petco or Petsmart and get the "Doggie Litter Box" and put the wee wee pad inside the box and put it in the kitchen with him, this way he learns that he must step into the box to go potty. This method helps with the peeing half on the pad and half off.

Being that you are gone for 10+ hours a day, he needs to have some sort of potty training that makes sense.
