the vet keeps them overnight to make sure they recover and do not have a reaction to the anest. they are put under with and to make sure they do not bust any stitches out the stitches are done on the inside and the outside the ones on the outside are removed later when the incision heals they are usually up and back to themselves the next day pets recover faster and handle pain and surgerys completely different than we do . most do not really notice the stitches and mess with them but they will probably be sore for awhile spay/neuter is a very routine procedure done by vets daily 8-)
