We got a playpen for our pups too. Last year when our home was finished, they left us whatever extra supplies they had (counter, flooring, etc), so we cut some of the linolium floor. If you can get free flooring (like if it's getting thrown away or whatever), or get it really cheap, I would go with that. It works good.
