A heat usually lasts about 3 weeks. They usually bleed the first week (although some don't bleed at all or bleed very little). The second week is when they are receptive to being bred. The last week is when they are going out of heat but usually aren't receptive to being bred anymore. Every male is different. Yours may not show interest in her until that second week when she is in "standing heat" - meaning she will stand to be bred. Be especially careful to keep them separated during that second week and even the third, especially since this is only her first heat.
