Well, I had a 4-hour wait at the Cedar Rapids airport. I spend the time out on the grass hoping he would pee, then I spent the rest of the time cleaning out the carrier 3x because, he must have gotten car sick on his ride to the airport and had just eaten. I was very worried that he wouldn't eat or drink and he didn't seem to.
He slept on the flights to Chicago - I couldn't take him out there, the airport is too big; he slept to DC National, and then I grabbed a taxi and got to my Dad's by 10pm. He ate and drank then, no worse for wear, but boy, that first night was a short one, he cried and cried.
I had them give me something from his littermates or mother (turned out to be a pink blanket.) It was so clean looking, I doubt if it actually had their scent on it at all. The breeder was just humoring me. But for weeks, I would put something of mine from the laundry basket (NOT undies). In four nights, he was sleeping thru. Sorry this was so long, it was just in March and still fresh in my mind.
