I bought a locking hemostat to remove the ear hair. I also use the powder. It says the powder is also good to dry out the ear, like after baths...

Mine never make a sound when I do it. The trick is to just grab a couple hairs at a time and it makes it much easier on them. (hence, easier on you!) If you grab a bunch at a time, it's going to hurt a lot more.
