My females only nurse their puppies a little over 4 weeks also and then they have had enough. I start my puppies on the dry puppy food soaked in Esbilac or water with a little canned food mixed in with eat and I also keep syringing them the Esbilac for a little bit depending on how well they are eating their puppy food.

Also just because they are weaning themselves doesnt mean they are ready to leave their mommy. They need to stay for at least 10 weeks and 12 weeks is even better. Good luck.
