Thanks everyone! I appreciate a site where I can ask "silly" questions when necessary, but no one treats them as silly! After doing the suggested research, it appears that I just have to bite the bullet and remove the hair. It's for his own good, so a brief sting is better than an infection of any kind. That would be much more painful in the long run.
