I've been to a lot of really great upscale doggie botiques in San Francisco, San Jose, Carmel, Monterey, San Louis Obisbo, Santa Barbara, Ventura and such, and none of them sell dog food. Some sell little bags of all natural dog snacks. I personally wouldn't deal with selling dog food if I were you. When I thought seriously about opening up a doggie botique here in my small town, I thought about putting in those little soda shop style tables and chairs and set up a little side counter with coffee, tea and have a small cooler with cold drinks. This way it's a nice draw when people can come in and relax and chat..........you generate more sales too.
