Default Serious digestive disorders in Yorkies

Hello All,
Some of you may remember me but it's ok if you don't. My name is Sue and I am Dixie Cup's and Buddy Boy's guardian. Buddy is my semi-rescue that I discussed at length when I was sure that I could not adopt him and I put his name and bio on this site looking for a good home. I fell in love and literally took from his last placement when the creep was in Florida. Since I was Buddy's dog walker on occasion I knew how to get into the creep's house. He never argued, complained or cared when he returned from Fla. and Buddy has been mine since March 1st.

Buddy has been very, very sick and has been hospitalized twice already. Since digestion problems intersect with each other, Buddy was diagnosed with either IBD or severe gastroenteritis. He hasn't gone a week without vomiting or diarrhea and usually there is blood in one or the other. I have gotten several opinions and they all concur within reason.

What a stressful mess this is right now. He is on reglan, flagyl, and pepcid and is eating only prescription food. Everytime, I, the human decide to make him healthier (as in adding a teasp. of organic yogurt or a vitamin) I wind up making him vomit again. Today my vet laid down the law. I am to keep Buddy ONLY AND STRICTLY ON THE PRESCRIPTION FOOD until such times as his digestive system calms down with consistency. This poor little boy really is having a rough time of it.

Have any of you experienced this horrible situation with your little ones? My heart is breaking for him but tonite when I put him to bed, he was feeling good so I feel better too. But the sudden onset of his symptoms is always in the back of my mind and I never know what I will find in the morning.

Please share if anyone one of you has not only experienced this with your dog but has also had some positive results. I know that Buddy's diagnosis is not a death sentence esp. since he is under treatment but still it is nasty, nasty stuff to deal with and sometimes very painful for him. I hope to hear from anyone who understands how difficult this is for both Buddy and me. Thanks a lot.
