Your first whelping will make you crazy. You will think every dangerous thing might happen but not to worry. We cannot just say "Let Nature take its course!" cause we have already intervined and the ituation is one of domestic animal delivery. Do you have an emergency vet that you can call if there are real problems in the middle of the night? Did you take the X-rays home so you will have them with you? Do you have your delivery kit already set up in case you need to help with the cord or with a puppy in distress? Do you know how to rub the puppy to stimulate breathing? Can you tie and cut a cord if NEEDED? Do you have a small suction to suck mucus out of the puppy's mouth? Do you know the signs of trouble? Green stool and the like? Is your whelping box such that there are vents in the sides down near the bottom so mom cannot squish a baby and suffocate it? Will the box be near an A/C duct? If so, block the cold air from the babies..
Gosh, I don't mean to scare you, but the fact it that your mom is inexperienced (I think I read that) and so are you(I also think I read that) If not, and you already know all those things...disregard this post..
