Buddy is 7 months old and is completely house trained. No accidents in 6 to 8 weeks. I worked very hard to get him to this point. He is crated at night and never has accidents. BUT in the beginning he would pee and poop in his crate EVERY night!!! Also in the beginning he would have accidents all over the house. Trust me, getting him house trained was not easy!!!! I watched him very closely and I took him out very often. I would PRAISE, PRAISE, PRAISE when he would potty outside then we would follow up with a TREAT!!! We still use treats and he still looks forward to them. I never used the pee pads but in the beginning I did use newspaper which he caught on pretty quickly too. However, I got tired of cleaning up the messy newspaper. I noticed that if I forgot to put the paper down he would hold it. Soooo one day I just stop using the newspaper ...from that point forward he would hold it. Let me assure you that in the beginning, he had accidents all the time. As he got older and I knew he understood that pottying was suppose to be outside....I started to use a very firm deep voice when ever he would have an accident and immediately take him outside. I tried ignoring accidents but they continiued to happen but once I acknowledged accidents in a firm voice he immediately caught on. I know there is alot of YT people out there that would scold me for this but it only took a few times and he NEVER had another accident. I now can leave him home alone gated in our mudroom for 5 to 6 hours and he will hold it and he holds it all night in his crate too.
Good luck!!!
