I had an experience with Lexie when I first got her. The groomer shaved her completely bald- she was a baby only about 3lbs at the time and we were heading into winter. I was livid- she NEVER called and told me she felt she needed to shave her- Lex was NOT badley matted!! I understand what you are saying as far as sometimes they do not have a choice but to shave them. I feel it is very much up to the groomer to make that VERY clear to the owner. You can avoid a lot of problems by simply communicating.[/QUOTE]
I learned this the hard way, when I first started grooming I shaved off a Sheep dog, I had intended on combing it out because I thought I could but after getting into it it was so matted that there was no way. So being new at grooming and being self taught I simply did the most humane thing and shaved it. Well when the owner picked up the dog he was livid to say the least, He talked about lawyers , I was very afraid and upset as I only did what I could do for this poor animal. I worried about it for weeks that we would loose our home or something but I never heard from him again till the following year when he called to see if I would do that same hair cut again. I told him I would not touch his dog ever , not even with a ten foot poll. But I learned a very good lesson , I always call and offer the owner a strip or they can come and pick the dog up, I will never make that mistake again. |
