Long sad story: Choose your groomer carefully..... and be very specific as to what YOU want done to your baby. The horror I have been thru for the past 3 days is no joke.
I took Ralphie (5yrs old) to his regular groomer on Thursday but someone I met at my vet's office awhile ago told me that SHE is a Yorkie groomer and that next time I want Ralphie groomed, I should bring him to her place, which happens to be so close to my home. She said the place I go to abuses the dogs and they are nasty people. Honestly, I never found that to be the case in nearly 2 years of going there. Ralphie always came out on time, happy, and well groomed and they always seemed to be such caring people. So, since he had been sick for the past 2 weeks, I decided to take him back there since they know him so well and seem to love him. After dropping him off there, I proceed to take Keisha, our Shihtzu, to the "new" groomer, alot close to my home
Since Keisha's fur was one big ball of knots, the groomer said she needs to cut her short, but for some odd reason, she made my daughter sign papers about this so-called "short" haircut. I don't think my daughter really read the papers well but I just had a sinking feeling this was not going to be good.
Well, I get a call from Ralphie's groomer that he was ready. And as always, Ralphie came out happy, clean and ready to go home and show off. I'm so glad his HGE episode has completely healed up from almost 2 weeks ago.
I then get a call that Keisha can be picked up and to be prepared because she's a little "OUT OF SORTS"! I freak out, as does my daughter, not prepared for what we were going to see.
She had had gorgeous blond fur going in and she now was a completely shaved down to her bare skin, with just long fur left on her ears and a piece in a bow on the top of her head, and a furry tail. She was crying and maimed looking and the groomer said it was to be expected!
Long story, sorry, a little shorter. Not only is she constantly wingeing and crying but she cannot sit right, will not move, will only go on the weewee pad if you put her on there, she will only eat if you bring her her bowl. she is shivering and acts as though she were beaten. I first suspected they drugged her but now I'm convinced they beat her instead.
We finally took her to the vet yesterday and the office was in shock when they saw her. She was just not the same dog they know! My vet was speechless. He said she is absolutely traumatized by the buzz cut and she was probably abused at the same time. He gave her a cortizone shot, I think, to calm her down and ease her pains and we have to watch her carefully....$60 later.
We went to the groomer yesterday and told her about Keisha's condition. My daughter was about to rip into the groomer and I had to hold her back from causing a scene as the police would have definitely had to make an appearance! She told the groomer that she at first suspected her of giving her a drug or an herb in order to buzz the dog that close but now she suspects she has been abused as did our vet! My daughter told the groomer, "I didn't come back here 2 days ago because if I did, I would have stood you on a table, yanked the crap out of your hair, then buzzed you down until your skin turned raw and purple like Keisha's and then I want to see how you feel!!!"
I asked the groomer, "Did you tell us that you were going to
BUZZ Keisha or cut her short? If you felt the need to buzz her, you should have called us to tell us that and I would have immediately said to leave her alone. I'm picking up my dog and bringing her elsewhere. You never even gave us the courtesy of a phone call to tell us what you were doing. Who died and left you boss???" At that point, I thought I was going to lose my cool.
The groomer was embarrassed as other clients were waiting and listening to us rant as they were to pick up their dogs.
All the groomer did was offer to pay us for the vet visit and wrote us a check for $60. We still threatened her that if anything happens to Keisha, that she hasn't heard the last of us and we left.
This morning, the dog is still crying and might possibly be worse than yesterday. We are going to the emergency vet again and hopefully it will still be a part of Keisha's trauma and he finds nothing physically wrong with her. She just cries because she cannot sit comfortably. And her eyes are so so sad.
Before we left, I did say, "Tell your groomer who put down my groomer that she shouldn't spread lies to others about how abusive my groomer is. Please look in your own backyard." And then we stormed out of there.
Ok! That's my rant for the day but it's very important that when you take your babies in for grooming that you are very very specific about what you want and don't give a groomer liberty to do as he/she pleases.
Hope everyone has had a better holiday weekend than us!
