I had the same problem w/ my yorkie...when he was about 6 months to a year old I tried to put a sweater on him because it was cold out, he had it on for a couple hours & when I took it off his hair looked like a brillo pad...I was so scared that I wasn't going to get it untangled... I eventually did, but now I only put the sweater or coat on to do a trip out to potty then it comes off...he has a cottony coat so that may be why
