I think it depends if your yorkie has a silky coat or cotton coat. Mine has a silky coat and it isn't any trouble at all. It's long. We try to brush it every day and use a metal comb once a week which keeps it pretty. Mostly, if she shakes herself her hair just goes back in place almost perfectly. A cotton coat usually means it is much thicker and I wouldn't even try to keep them in a long coat in the summer because they will surely get way too hot if they are outside very much.
