Omg Baby Teeth Extraction! Help!!!

Spike saw his vet the other week who noticed that his adult teeth are coming in where his baby teeth have not yet fallen out. Apparently this can cause problems, so he referred me to another vet who specializes in dentistry. The doggy dentist said that he needs 6 - 8 baby teeth extracted fairly soon, and that hopefully that will allow his adult teeth to grow in properly. If the teeth are not extracted, then his adult teeth will not grow in properly, which will probably lead to some serious dental problems in the future. The plan is to get these teeth taken out while he is in for his neuter surgery.

The vet called again today with his quote for the surgery - $1400 - $1800 (CDN)!!! OMG!!! Apparently it is because they are estimating that it will take about 1 1/4 to do all the work, as well as the neuter, so he will be under anesthetic for quite a while.

Has anyone had a similar experience? He is booked in for his surgery June 5, since I figure I might as well bite the bullet now (no pun intended), and do my best to prevent any future dental disasters!
