One reason to wait is that she might get bigger once she is a year old. She is only just over 4 months now. She has a lot of growing still to do. You just do not know right now - what her adult weight will get to.

Most show potential from well know show breeders are going to cost you over 3,000 and co-ownership till championship title is earned and sometimes also a puppy back. You only paid 2,000.

Most reputable breeders place in their contracts that the buyer must contact the seller if they decide to sell or not keep the pup any more. This allows the breeder the first right to purchase back one of their own pups or to help rehome it. Sometimes the breeder does not have the available funds to buy back the pup, but they will do what they can to find it another home. Have you asked Pam to help you search for a new owner so you can rehome Dixie and buy another pup? Most reputable breeders I know - will ask the owner to hold on to the pup until it reaches a year old to make sure of the weight. It is just the norm.
