hI! I do all of my girls. I express theirs when they get their baths and are nice and warm in the water. You should have your vet show you if you aren't sure as it could hurt them if you aren't careful. Scooting on the floor is a sign that they need to be emptied as that is how they empty them naturally but that smell will go all over your floor.
He could just be scratchin too? Good luck. I think the glands can also be removed with surgery now but not all vets do that.
