Flexis have a purpose. We don't have a fence so Sammy and Loki go outside on Flexis while I stand inside the door or on the porch. When we go for walks we use 4ft leashes and harnesses.

Sammy and Loki both wear collars with ID tags and are microchipped. Since they go outside so often, we need to be able to attach their flexis to their collars so they can run out and pee. The flexis we use are the ones with the least tension and they go right out to the lawn and back. They both have multiple harnesses that we use for walks and in the car to strap them into their car seats, however leaving harnesses on them all day generally results in chewed-through harnesses, which is definitely NOT safe. Also, they are crated when they are home alone and we don't have any baby gates or anything like that.

I don't disagree with you, I just wanted to point out that all of these things do have a purpose. I also get frustrated when people walk their dogs of any size on retractable leashes, because they could run into the street or run up to any person or dog without the owner's control. Besides, they are quite difficult to juggle. I think it's much easier to use a regular leash to walk a dog of any size.
