You must look back at the parent's pedigree for at least 3 generations. If there are big dogs in the pedigree, your dog is more likely to turn out bigger than average.

There is usually one runt in a litter and one "big one" in a litter. Size at the time of birth is not always indicative, a big baby might grow to be only 4lbs while the super tiny baby might grow to 6lbs. At 12 weeks you can usually tell, but adult weight can't be 100% guaranteed.
