Allergies and itching/hot spots is a hot topic on the Bichon Frise discussion list. I have an 8-year-old Bichon named Cosmo who has had bad itching and hot spots. I switched his food to Wysong Synorgon and it cleared up. Wysong is all natural and he doesn't get any treats except 100% natural chicken treats from Wysong and raw veggies and fruits. Cosmo seemed to react to about everything and we never could pinpoint what would cause him to itch or get a hot spot. Just walking in the grass seemed to be bad for him. I couldn't keep him from scratching for even one week at a time. I still watch him very carefully and put Gold Bond Medicated Powder on his feet and tummy after being outside, just to be sure he doesn't start itching. He hasn't had itchies or a hot spot for almost two years. I have held him and cried and walked the floor with him to keep him from scratching. He would whine and scratch and be so miserable. He lived in onesies for a long time and I slept with him literally in my arms so I would know if he started scratching. I tried a lot of remedies, but changing his food finally worked. Anyone battling allergies has all of my sympathy. It's heartbreaking to see a little one scratching and so miserable.
