| I just posted this in the "Yorkie Health & Diet" section. I haven't had any experience with itchy yorkies, but maybe it will be of some help to you. The condition is called Candida. http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/Knowle...s=&click=73117 |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali scratches constantly day and night. I have had her to the vet many times and had the expensive allergy testing done all with no results. I took her in again Thursday and told the vet I was desperate as poor Cali scratches all the time. She really feels it is food allergies and ashe said the only thing to do is keep her on one food. a novel protein (like vennison, white fish) for 4 months and nothing else no treats. I am in the process of getting her the ingredients of all Cali's foods to see if one of them will work. In the mean time we decided to try steroids for a very short period of time to see if she can get some relief. None of the allery meds worked for her at all.I will keep you posted.

| Scratching and Itching with Alyssa My dog, Alyssa, has very sensitive skin and allergies. She got to the point about 2 years ago where all she did was bite and scratch at her skin. We went to the vet several different times and each time either got allergy medicine or steroids. The steroids would help until they were used up and then it was back to scratching. Our next step was going to be allergy tests which are expensive. I was feeding Royal Canin Yorkshire Food. I changed to another brand and it stopped. Because of the recall of food I changed back from the brand she was eating and went back to Royal Canin because I thought it was safe and had not been recalled. Alyssa started back itching and scratching. I then changed to Canidae on April l3th of this year. Since then there has been no scratching and itching. I have not determined the exact cause of the scratching but truly believe that there is something in the RC that she is alergic to. |

| allergies Allergies and itching/hot spots is a hot topic on the Bichon Frise discussion list. I have an 8-year-old Bichon named Cosmo who has had bad itching and hot spots. I switched his food to Wysong Synorgon and it cleared up. Wysong is all natural and he doesn't get any treats except 100% natural chicken treats from Wysong and raw veggies and fruits. Cosmo seemed to react to about everything and we never could pinpoint what would cause him to itch or get a hot spot. Just walking in the grass seemed to be bad for him. I couldn't keep him from scratching for even one week at a time. I still watch him very carefully and put Gold Bond Medicated Powder on his feet and tummy after being outside, just to be sure he doesn't start itching. He hasn't had itchies or a hot spot for almost two years. I have held him and cried and walked the floor with him to keep him from scratching. He would whine and scratch and be so miserable. He lived in onesies for a long time and I slept with him literally in my arms so I would know if he started scratching. I tried a lot of remedies, but changing his food finally worked. Anyone battling allergies has all of my sympathy. It's heartbreaking to see a little one scratching and so miserable. |
