Default Newby Questions

Hello,

I'm new to this forum and to Yorkies overall. I've owned Pugs in the past but never a Yorkie. We currently have no dogs or other animals.

My family is considering a Yorkie because of what are probably very typical reasons for this forum (1) small size and (2) little to no shedding. If I'm wrong on either of these, please let me know.

We have two girls, ages 7 and 4.

I generally choose female dogs over male dogs. My main reason is that male dogs typically mark their territory. That is somewhat annoying for me.

Are male Yorkies generally smaller than female yorkies? It seems to be true based on what breeders have said about the size of the parents of their litter.

Also, are there any reasons to go with a male or a female (temperament, size, health, barking, etc.)?

Thanks, Steve

P.S. If anyone is or knows of a reputable breeder in the Salt Lake valley, please let me know.
