Never really answered any of your questions, here goes:

How long would I use the crate? You will need a crate for a long while. Some people continue throughout their lives, some people stop when they are potty trained.

Would I use it as her bed? yes

If we leave her do I leave her in there? At this age you would ever want to leave her out. It is not safe. She could get into elecrical wires and get shocked or something could fall on her...always leave her in the crate when you are gone.

Do I stop using it after a certain age and get her a doggy bed? You can.
