Rawhides are not good for any size dog, per our vet. The remaining pieces are swallowed whole, and could possible cause an obstruction in the colon. The rawhide swells like a dumpling, causing the blockage. Our vet says if you want to give them an animal part to chew on, then go with Quality Pigs Ears or Cow Hooves. We switched to Pigs Ears, and it has been remarkable on how well our Australian Cattle Dog's teeth look. Before we had to have them cleaned by our vet, due to tartar build up next to the gum line. Now, they are as white as a new puppy. I only give them the ears twice a week. Now, Maggie is a different story. She loves them too. We have proof of that. They are hidden under every cushion and pillow in the house.
