Oh my, I am so sorry to hear what happened. I know from experience that the fire department can do more damage than the fire.

The smoke smell will last for what seems forever (at least a year) ...
Did you have an insurance adjuster there yet to evaluate the damage?

I believe home owners insurance covered my parents' damage bill ... but itz a horror to see what smoke and fire can do ..
