I prefer females. I have a male maltese and a female yorkie. I honestly don't think you can always bank on one sex being better than the other. I believe it depends on each dogs temperment and personality. Just as we humans vary. Some of us are friendly, more well behaved, have great attitudes and some of us don't . Everyone has their own personality. Be it genetics, or the way we are raised, or whatever. The reason I prefer female dogs is really silly. I had 3 sons..I was always the only female in a house with 4 males..it was just nice to have another female something around. Never had a little girl so I want the pink stuff, bows, girlie names, etc. I tend to always end up with male dogs so when I decided on getting a yorkie I stuck it out and waited a long time to get her. Mia is finally my baby girl. In my area female yorkies do not cost more than males, at least not by the our local chapter of YTCA. Now the females maltese does cost way more in my area. Mia is really a sweeter natured dog than my male maltese.
