I train dogs and I've always told my students, never let your puppy do something that you don't want them to do when they are older. Ie: when a puppy jumps on you it might be cute, but when that dog is over 100lbs it isn't so cute. biting is no different, your fingers are not a chew toy and he has to learn that straight-away. When my pups would bite my fingers I'd make a Yelp and say "no bite" and immediately replace my fingers with a toy, chew, or even an ice cube. timing is everything. You can set the scene up..have your replacement toy or? ready..wait for him to go for your fingers..yelp (loud) with a NO BITE, replace toy..good boy...good boy. It won't happen over night but eventually he should get the idea. Make sure everyone in the family is on board with this otherwise it won't work as the pup will become confused and frustrated. I do not believe is slapping or hitting the nose..I have been known to make my fingers like a mothers mouth and kinda close my fingers around the pups muzzel when I say NO BITE (gently with fingers).
Congrats on your new bundle. They are the best, and make my life so much happier.. |
