Well, the pain is probably a pulled muscle from coughing...BUT I suggest you take him to the vet to be sure.
It may just be asthma if it's on exertion, (after playing really hard). Is there wheezing, too, or just coughing? Does anything come up when he coughs (mucus)? Does water help? Is there anything that stops it?
