We will never leave our babies with anyone ever again. We would rather stay home and never go out then to take a chance of something happening to them. Here are a few of the stories that I can think of.
With my first dog (a little poodle/pug mix) I left her with my sister and niece and I went to California. My niece called to tell me that she hadn't eaten in a few days. I asked her to take Misty to my backyard so she would be in familiar territory and take her food bowl and let her eat her food there. It worked. She ate the rest of the time I was gone.
Another time I left my Schnauzer and Lhasa Apso with my sister and her dogs. They came home full of fleas. I took them straight to the tub for a flea bath when I walked in the door. I had a total flea infestation after that. Never again.
The worst is yet to come. My husband and I took our three dogs (2 Lhasa's and a Schnauzer) to a very reputable high-cost kennel/doggy resort. We paid a fortune to put them in a suite with doggy movies for their entertainment pleasure. We took their beds and blankets so they would be comfortable. We took their food and treats and left them feeding instructions. My husband called them every day to ask how the dogs were. They told us each time that they were just fine.
When we got home and went to pick them up, their beds and blankets were so full of feces and urine that we had to throw them in the garbage. The dogs were filthy and our littlest Lhasa was so weak from not eating that she couldn't stand up. She was too weak to even open her eyes. We were furious. Fortunately, little Chewey slowly gained her strength back in a few days. Thinking back on it, I think we should have sued them.
I will never leave my precious little babies with anyone. I just won't take any chances this time around.
