Yes, they will definitely go after a bigger Yorkie. My Tucker is 9-10 lbs and a hawk came very close to getting him. Swooped down out of NOWHERE with me standing just a few feet away! It happened very fast. It came so close that it pulled out part of his hair and cut his back.
Not sure what made it change its mind but I got very very lucky.
