Prices down here are like that too! Most places charge over $50 just to see the vet, not including any tests at all. They wanted to charge $400 for my mom's male to be neutered(not including taking out puppy teeth) which is MUCH less invasive than a spay. Those prices are ridiculous in my opinion. Maybe there's a city nearby that has good vets with cheaper prices. Miko's neuter was done when we lived somewhere else, so his was around $100 including gas anesthesia, pre-op bloodwork, etc., I believe. And Emma was spayed before I got her, but I guarantee they didn't pay that much for it.
