Welcome to YT!

All of the advice on this thread have been great!
I did want to add one more thing. Whenever you come home and he is jumping and acting out of control excited, you should ignore him until he calms down. I know this will be hard at first!

This lets him know that you are the alpha dog and it is okay that you have to go out.
Someone once explained it to me like this: When we have skin kids we are in charge of them and we worry to death until they get home safe and sound. So when we alow our dogs to be the alpha dog, they think of us as "theirs". When we have to go out, they will worry to death until you get home, sometimes turning that worry into destructive behavior. When we get home and we rush over to tell the puppy that "everything is okay, that Mommy (or Daddy) is here now!" We reinforce to the puppy that it is not a good thing to be away, and somehow it is bad to be apart. When we act normal, when we get home, and give the puppy time to calm down, we let him know that being away is normal, it's what the alpha dog does!

Do a search on being the "alpha dog" and you will find a lot of good advice. I think you are a wonderful Mommy, and will do a great job in raising your little furkid! This is a terrific site to answer all of your questions. Good luck with your little one!

Hope this helps. I know it did me.
