Default Cars and yorkies

How do your yorkies behave in cars?! Archie starts panting with his tongue out for the whole ride, but he doesn't look out the window or anything like other dogs do. He just looks at me driving. I'm not sure if he's scared or excited but it's like, "Archie, calm down!!!". If he was scared, he wouldn't pant, right? Archie doesn't do well in cages or confined areas, so I'm not sure if he's feeling claustrophobic, or if he knows we're going somewhere and is really excited. I know that when he's scared, he crouches down. In a car, he just sits there and pants and won't play with any toys I give him or snack on treats. Any advice on how to change this behaviour and get him to just sit there? I want to add quickly that I don't put the heat on too high so I know it's not panting because he's hot.
