I am so sorry to hear about your puppy. I have not heard of a tracheal wash, but it definitely sounds like that may have affected his condition. Hope this helps...I got my puppy and he started with a runny nose and then it went into a cough. I took him to an emergency vet as soon as I noticed it and they took xrays of his lungs and said they looked clear, but didn't sound clear at all. They diagnosed him with Kennel Cough/Pneumonia and he was only 10 wks old at the time. They kept him overnight on IV and antibiotics, but he was lethargic and not eating really well. The next day we picked him up and immediately brought him to our vet and they kept him for 3 more days and said he seemed to be improving so we brought him home with antibiotics (Cefa-Drops). Well when I brought him home he was hyper and eating well so I thought we were out of the woods. However, 3 days later he woke up and wouldn't even sit up. He would just lay there, wouldn't eat or drink. So then I took him to the vet our breeder used b/c there would be no cost and that way he could stay on the antibiotics as long as possible. I brought him there that day we noticed he got worse and they kept him for 4 days and sent us home with Chloro-something (not sure what it was, but it helped). He was only on that for 7 days and was still coughing, but eating and drinking and playing like a normal puppy. So then I took him back to my vet to check him and she said that his lungs finally sound clear, but he had some labored breathing still. Now he has been on Clavamox and Antirobe Aquadrops since last Thursday (June 9). He also got a little ear infection, but I think that was separate and from his bath. Anyway, the medicine seems to be working, but he still has his coughing episodes and his nose is still a bit runny sometimes. My vet said that puppies that small that come down with pneumonia should be on antibiotics for at least 5-6 wks. So far it's been almost a month on antibiotics. The thing is, he acts like nothing's wrong with him. He eats great and plays all day, but I just hate to hear the cough. I know exactly what you are going through having to wait and hear everyday how his condition is. I was so depressed for that whole week just wondering what was going to happen. It was terrible and I really did not know what to do. I thank God everyday that I have him home and he is well and I hope the same will happen for you. I am praying for your puppy and really hopes he starts to show improvement. Please keep us updated.
