| I just had Charlie neutered and he was a day over four months. He did really well. I did it so early because 1. my county (kern county, CA) requires that every dog be "altered" and be vaccinated for rabies by 4 months. Even though a lot of people don't do it by then, it was important to me to get him licensed because we live in an apartment off a very busy street. and 2. a lot of things i read said if you can neuter the male before they reach sexual maturity you have a good chance of nipping a lot of bad behaviors male dogs can have before they start like: humping, agressiveness, marking, and territorialness with other male dogs.
Make the decision that you're comfortable with, and choose a vet who rutinely does very small dogs.
