Get some soft ones, not the fancy ones that have hard rubber soles and stiff ankles. A simple fleece sack with velcro around the top works fine. One YTer cuts off the tips of work gloves and fastens them with Velcro. Then put them on your dog, take your dog outside and hold a treat in front of him/her. If it's a good enough treat, they will walk a step for it. Do this every day for two weeks until they start walking farther and farther. They will likely never enjoy putting them on, but they will forget them have them on once outside. And whether they realize it or not, they will be infinitely more comfortable.

I'm 2 for 2 in teaching Yorkies to tolerate them. I know it's possible.
