I just used something I picked up at Sally's Beauty and it worked great. I have tried most of the dog detanglers and Cowboy Magic. The Cowboy Magic is kind of messy to use on the tangles, but does soak right in and does not leave them messy. This new stuff is called Silken Child Leave-In Detangler. It was 3.99 for an 8 oz bottle. It sprays on and did make it much easier on the tummy and elbows to comb out.
