You are very right there and once the cartilage in the ears are broken due to too heavy hair for too long, they won't go up. But that is considered an environmental cause, ie not shaving them and is not a genetic cause. If handled properly they would have gone up. A genetic cause they will not go up no matter how much you tape and shave.
