I think the person not getting enough suction or carpet pile being "hoovered" must have a bad seal somewhere. There is HUGE suction from the Dyson and the carpet definately looks vacuumed when you go over it --sometimes a little too much and I walk around over it to get the "grooved look" to go away.

It is easy to empty. I just hold the cannister down in the tall kitchen garbage can and release -- everything comes out. I don't have to stick my hand in. I can see I will have to rinse it out occasionally because you can see the dusty inside but that is not a priority for me. I am still in awe over what it sucks out of the carpet. My carpet is not even all that old!
