just saw this post.. I live right outside of Baton Rouge, in Denham Springs and have worked in Baton Rouge all my life... the crime rate is higher than in the past in Baton Rouge due to so much influx of Katrina "movers". The population in the city has just grown so mch, they are experiencing growing pains, not that the people are bad, its just an adjustment we are all dealing with... The schools are not good in the city.
Are you moving here for work? If you are, you will Definitely want to look into the Denham Springs/Watson area for living.. we are just outside of Baton Rouge and it is a much smaller community. The school system here in Livingston Parish is much better than Baton Rouge, we rated in the top 4 in the state.

I have lived here all of my life... and just like any other city, there are places you dont want to go to, but I have never been afraid in BR.
