I think you may be right, it probably is just a coincidence, the timing of the recall just freaked me out last night. I actually took him in to the vet yesterday before even reading about the recall because I wanted to be sure the diarrhea wasn't a symptom of something more serious and I knew I wouldn't have time to take him during the week as work is very busy at the moment and there's just no way for me to take off.

Luckily my vet is open every day of the week so I'm just waiting until nine to leave a message for him regarding the food, it probably has nothing to do with why he's sick but it's best to inform him just in case. Thanks for the advice though, one of my missions today is to stock up on some remedies that will work for Nemo if he ever gets sick again and your list helps a lot.
