I'm sorry that you had this bad experience. Just to be on the safe side, one should use the same caution with their dogs as they do with their children.

You wouldn't allow your child to walk up to a strange dog without making sure the dog doesn't bite. You shlould probably use the same caution with your fur baby.

However, that does not excuse the other peoples rude behavior and not showing concern as to whether or not your dog was hurt. They're lucky it wasn't a child or their dog would be in trouble.
